History

MIDM was founded in 1978 by Sylvia “Magogo” Glasser. Established as a non-racial company MIDM has developed into a trailblazing, nationally-acclaimed professional contemporary African dance company, as well as a training organisation which has nurtured numerous internationally recognised dancers and choreographers, produced arts administrators and teachers and been involved in training South African educators and learners throughout South Africa.

Its specific brand of training in ground-breaking Edudance methodology (teaching general school subjects and social issues through dance); unique Afrofusion technique (a blending of African dance, music and ritual with Western contemporary dance forms) for youth and adults; as well as its extensive educational and outreach programmes, developed over the past 3 decades, have become models for other arts organisations throughout South Africa.
