Foreplay at the Market Theatre
12th January 2010 - 14th March 2010
The scenes and structure of the play have also been altered to fit specific South African situations, and although the circular structure of the original play has been maintained, here the adaptation revolves around the world of theatre – focusing on the two central protagonists – the Poet/ Playwright and the Actress.
Using ‘the South African manner of storytelling’, the play consists of six black actors (three males and three females) playing all the ten roles in the play. The Playwright acts as a narrator of sorts, connecting one vignette to another until the circle is completed at the end.
Foreplay returns after a virtually sold-out run at the Market Theatre in 2009.

The Market Theatre Precinct was once a thriving Indian produce market, built in the 1900s. Saved from bulldozers by a small group of art activists the Market Theatre is now central to Johannesburg's cultural heritage.
